I just got back from Michigan and riding at Waterloo Recreation Area. I thought some people might be interested in what I found up that way.

Newton Lake Fish & Wildlife Area
Twenty two miles of trail along the picturesque shoreline of the lake were opened in 1980. The trail system begins at the North Access parking lot . The trails are opened to hiking, cross-country skiing and equestrian use.
Big River State Forest
Located near Keithsburg. northwest of Galesburg.
Out of State Horse Entry Requirements
If you travel to Illinois with your horse, yopu must have the new permit. The fines are stiff and the officials have no sense of humor.
Kankakee River State Park is great.
Enveloping both sides of the Kankakee River for 11 miles, in an area 6 miles northwest of Kankakee, the park consists of approximately 4,000 acres. Illinois Routes 102 on the north and 113 on the south frame the park, with Interstates 55 and 57 both providing convenient access.
About Middle Fork State Park
The campgrounds are shaded and there are plenty of trees to put up picket lines. There are no pens or hitch rails for tying horses.

Riding The Cardinal Greenway

so not all of the trail is complete. Also, not all is open to horses.
Riding Shirly Creek
Shirly Creek is part of Hoosier National Forest in
Southern Indiana. It has 20 miles of trails, 15
campsites with hitching rails and picnic tables and
fire rings and vault toilets. No water, just a spring
for horses.
Riding Hickory Ridge
Hickory Ridge Horse Camp is in the middle of the
Hoosier National Forest, south of Bloomington
Riding Prarie Creek
Prarie Creek is just south of Muncie near the little town of Mount Pleasant off of
highway 35.
Owen-Putnam State Forest
Located west of Spencer, Indiana, Owen-Putnam State
Forest has some of the best hardwood forests in the
country and a 50 foot sandstone bluff.
