I just got back from Michigan and riding at Waterloo Recreation Area. I thought some people might be interested in what I found up that way. We had a great time and the trails were very clean and nice. They were mostly sandy with some rocks here and there. The small amount of rode riding that we did was not traveled by any cars while we were riding on them. However, we did have to cross a road or two that was traveled. We wished we could of went to the lake we saw there but, we were told no horses allowed in the lakes. People at the campground were very friendly and eager to help us find our way. The only thing we couldn't find anywhere were trail maps. The rangers and the campground didn't have any at all. Someone told us that you had to apply to the local horse group to get one.......I don't know if that is true, I was only told that by someone who was camped there. So, we had to borrow a map to use from a fellow camper. I believe that you do need a map to ride there, not because you will get lost but, because you need to know the colors of the trails so, you can do complete loops and not keep returning back to camp. The campground and the horse trails were shaded which was a welcome thing since the weekend was very hot in the sun. There was usually a nice breeze blowing too that made it nice. The campground was easily accessible from the interstate. The cost was $13/day and $4/day for a parking pass. No showers. You can get water by a pump and had pit toilets. Michigan was beautiful and I am really glad I was able to go. This information was compiled by the crack research team at HorsebackRidingArticles.com. It is by no means complete.
