JW Jones Stables is located just south of Gosport on IN 67. Take 67 south out of Gosport. You'll go down a big hill and then up another. JW Jones Stable is on the left....big sign and stone horse. Very hard to miss. The day ride area is at the top of the hill. Just follow the signs. Camping is on both sides of the road; primitive to the left and electric to the right. This is a great place to get away. If you're going for a summer weekend you might want to get their early in order to secure an electric camp site. There are several electric sites and many more primitive, including site surrounding a pasture off one of the side roads. JW allows horsemen to use his place for free as long as we continue to take care of the facilites and clean up after ourselves. He has porta potties available but no shower facilities. The electric sites also have water hookup. Most of the primitive sites also have water very close by. JW does not charge to use his facility. Please, though, respect the private camping area at the top of the hill. That is reserved for his friends and family. The trails vary in intensity from beginner trails to very steep and exciting. JW recently purchased around 100 more acres, making his total spread about 700 acres and most of it is criss-crossed in trails. It is possible to ride your horse to Gosport from Jone's place. One of the high points is the ride to the "treehouse". There's a hitching rail there, so take a halter and tie so you can make the treck to the top of the treehouse. The view is spectacular. The newest trails, which are on the south portion of the property, rival any found in Brown County SP for intensity. Some honestly are more mule safe than horse safe. It's not unsual to see teams of horses or mules pulling wagons around the wider trails and roads. If you're looking for a place to drive this is an option for you. This is very nice place to ride and you can make it as easy or as tough ride as you desire.
